Lincoln & Yvette Murangira.
A married couple in Kampala who share their lives and their music, and who ended up doing this for a living because people kept asking.
Linc
Lincoln is the one who asks the question everybody in the room is avoiding. He grew up between Kampala and boarding school, learned to read people early, and has spent most of his adult life being the friend other men call at eleven at night.
He handles the vetting, the difficult conversations, and the part of matchmaking that involves telling someone the truth about themselves kindly.
Veve
Yvette sings, and she remembers everything. She has been performing since she was a teenager, releases music as Yvette Veve, and can tell within an hour whether two people are going to bore each other.
She looks after the introductions themselves — who meets whom, how they are told about each other, and what happens afterwards.
We did not set out to do this.
It started with dinners. Friends would come over, and leave having said things out loud they had been carrying for months. Then they started bringing other friends. Then they started asking whether we knew anyone.
Eleven years of marriage has not made us experts on love. It has made us stubborn about it — about doing it on purpose, out loud, with people who will tell you the truth. That is the whole of what we are offering.
Our vision
A generation of East African households built on choice rather than chance — where people marry someone they were introduced to carefully, by someone who knew them both.
Our mission
To make a small number of very good introductions each year, to have the conversations that make those introductions work, and to keep every single thing we are told to ourselves.
